Client: Kickette
Overview: My motto is to keep it varied, never too much of any one thing. For that reason alone I jumped at the chance to re-design the Kickette site, what an excellent chance to design something rather different. This site is a gossip blog about the world of footballers and their WAG's, it has a huge international following and was a chance to stray away from my usual 'boy' focused work and to create something light and girlie. The brief was to make it feel personal, as if you were getting a glimpse into someone's personal diary, so I decided to scatter the page with lots of bits of pieces and to include lots of hand written elements, to further add to the diary feel. Great brief, great little job.
Client: Data Realms
Overview: Well, what can I say? Actually, I know what I can say, three words should cover it...Dream...Come...True!! This is pretty much my ideal project. Data Realms asked me to redesign their homepage and to throw in some sexy flash animation too, great. The subject matter is my all time favourite, gaming and even better, retro gaming. Data Realms specialise in old school, pixel graphic, good fun, Indie style gaming...what a subject to work on!! Tough and enjoyable brief...keep it pixel and retro, but make it contemporary...I loved every minute!!
Client: .NET Magazine
Overview: Yey, this was way cool. .NET Magazine contacted Lightmaker and asked me to enter the build off (a monthly creative battle with two other agencies) for Mays issue! Awesome! I had to create a fictional brand for mens/womens fashion, so I opted for eyewear and created the company ‘Ottico’…which is Italian for optics…seemed to kinda fit. Great fun little project and now my second appearance in a national publication!!
Client: Morphy Richards
Overview: I’ve been working a lot with these guys while at Lightmaker and have to say that they have fast become one of my favourite clients. They are a great bunch and always open to new ideas. This was the big one, the re-design of Morphy Richards.com. It was always going to be much more than a simple re-design as they wanted to refresh their brand message and angle of approach. The site is now about more than simply products, but about their culture and a portrayal of lifestyle and how their products relate to it. Really enjoyable project!!!
Client: Morphy Richards
Overview: This was a cool little banner concept for Morphy Richards Head Gear range. It was an ace little job as the colour palette was so vibrant and lively. I wanted to capture the feeling of long flowing hair, hence the pretty pink swooshy, wooshy bits in the background...see, there you go, some 'rational' behind something...pretty ;)
Client: Toribash
Overview: This game rocks!!!!! I was approached by the creators of Toribash to re-design the homepage for Toribash.com which I agreed to whole heartedly!!! This is such a cool boutique game and great to see something out there with some real originality. The best bit about this job was the mix of clean white mixed with the total gore fest of splattered blood…definitely something I’d never played with before. The small flash piece was also great fun as it allowed me to play with some nice little video clips to create an action packed banner.
Client: Mount Kare - Gold Rush
Overview: This site was quite an honour to do, it’s a promotional site to cover Andi Flowers story about the Mount Kare Gold Rush and was a chance to create a site that felt real, texture rich and passionate. I can really recommend reading this book as it’s an amazing insight into what actually happened.
Client: The Falmouth Hotel
Overview: And yet more concept work. As I have moved into a more conceptualist role you’ll be seeing more of this type of work in the future. This one was for the lovely Falmouth Hotel, a nice 4 star hotel that serves great home cooked food and has a really warm atmosphere. I wanted to create quite an opulent feel to go along with the hotels image.
Role: Head Creative
Employer: Lightmaker.com
Link: N/A concept work
Client: Morphy Richards
Overview: This was quite a nice little micro site...and an even better coffee machine! The brief was to make people 'want' the coffee, to get the real 'coffee feeling'. By using a mix of warm coffee tones and great imagery the site came together really well. Also, buy one, the coffee is THE best I have ever tasted! :)
Client: Rough Hill
Overview: Rough hill is a huge student night club event organiser. Their brief was to create a fresh and exciting site that held the essence of club life...bright, vibrant, exhilarating and contemporary. You'll notice on the site the animated 3D banner, this was visualised and modelled by me and animated/rendered by my colleague and friend Ricky Phoolka.
Client: Origin Logistics
Overview: Great little project. Pretty new company that specialises in moving the un-moveable. The brief was to create a slick and clean site that told the user plain and simply what they do.
Client: Bacardi
Overview: The Bacardi Ltd design was something a little different for Bacardi. They're usually considered as a young, fun drinks brand and not necessarily a serious 'business', when the requirement came for an all new business facing site this was my answer. I wanted to go for a look more akin to a corporate brochure. Here's the outcome.
Client: Whistles
Overview: This was an excellent pitch, one that really pushed the thinking. The biggest challenge here was to take my male mind and ignore it 100% to allow myself to create something very ladylike, girlie and feminine. The design had to incorporate a feel of the new Whistles ladies store in London, lots of little details, flourishes, buttons, classical details and charm. This was my response.
Client: Yamaha
Overview: Yamaha Racing was a gigantic affair. The site covers 11 racing classes and hundreds of pages of varied content. The longest part of this behemoth was the structure, site tree and 70 page wireframe storyboard. With this out of the way, it was time to bring the exhilaration of high speed racing to the new site.
Client: Kenwood
Overview: Kenwood were about to launch a new coffee maker and needed a fresh new micro site to do so, my approach was to try and capture the gritty and warm feeling to a Latin café.
Client: Sycamore Harley Davidson
Overview: This was a concept for a small local Harley Davidson dealership, they wanted some idea's for a new brand, new site and new feel in general. This was my approach, it intended to bring their brand into a more contemporary light while still retaining the grit of the culture.
Client: DFT
Overview: This was quite a strange job for me, one of my earliest with Lightmaker and it involved working with someone else's illustrations...gasp, someone else's I hear you cry! Yes, normally it would have been me illustrating but this time another person had been commissioned by the DFT to do traditional 'comic' illustration. I did however create every other element within the site other than the characters, which included the animated city scape, the brand and the general design. Nice little job.
Client: GALT Educational
Overview: GALT Educational required a strong new online identity to help sell their very famous and highly regarded toy and furniture range. My angle was to use the subtlety of natural tones that closely reflected the wooden materials used for their products, further reinforcing their message of quality and value.
Client: Yamaha
Overview: The Yamaha Wolverine is a monstrously powerful quad bike which needed a gritty and powerful online banner ad within Yamaha.com to help sell to the right audience. I took the approach of a high speed, highly stylised action sequence where the Wolverine is tearing through a forest. The finish was made as mud sprayed from the rear wheels and covered the screen revealing the name of the Wolverine.
Client: NEXT
Overview: NEXT needed a new micro site to showcase their latest catwalk featuring Yasmin LaBon. The idea to was allow user to see the clothes in motion and have the ability to take a close up look and be able to purchase the items through the micro site. This site was very successful increased online sales by a notable amount.
Client: ALI
Overview: ALI was another concept for a new online identity to allow users to view their range of case studies that showcased a handful of their clients, BMW being one of them.
