Nuclear Dawn – The Trailer

Oh, oh, oh, oh, this was toooo much fun! I mean, I know I harp on about ‘oh this was a dream project a lot’ and whenever I say that...I mean it, 100%, I’ve been so lucky with the projects I’ve been on of late, but this, oh man, this was just heaven! I love games, I love graphics and I TOTALLY love motion graphics, so when the guys at Interwave asked me to put their preview trailer together, I bit their arm off! I’ve done a couple of trailers before, but never for anything as gritty and dark as this, so it was great to stray into something totally new.

Initially I created a photmatic for this to let the guys know exactly what footage I needed and then from there I went onto to create the trailer. I was sent over about 6gig’s worth of 720p raw footage and then started out editing it in After Effects. Once I’d added the treatment and effects I wanted to the footage I then started on the title sequences. I wanted these to feel like they were deep in fiery ruins of warfare, so I layered up looooads of smoke, fire, burning particle effects and exploding rubble, all overlaid with some crackling fire and other killer sound effects. The end result brings a big old smile to my face.

The other element I loved doing was the Interwave ident at the beginning. I wanted this to be a stark contrast to the game visuals by keeping with the company blue, making a futuristic and rich first few seconds. This acted as a ‘before the war’ sequence in some ways, then leading into the war-torn game trailer.

Bloody loved this! Go check it out at the site as it looks even better when dropped in around the sites interface:

Voodoo Controllers

This project was nothing short of brilliant! When the guys at Voodoo Controllers got in touch and outlined the project, I was very, very excited! Being a new company they needed a new brand, character design, site design, packaging design, 3D prototyping and banner ads...the whole shebang! I knew immediately that this was going to be ace. Everything seemed to flow really naturally too, the brand and character came together really quickly and then the rest of the elements just slotted into place. It was great to work on an e-commerce site that was a little edgy and needed to have more punch than your run of the mill online store. You can take a look at the rest of the work in the other sections of the site. So if you’re in need of a kick ass modded controller, give these guys a shout, they’ve got everything covered!

Wheelie – The 2 Wheeled Robot

Just warming up the old 3D skills ready for a rather bloody exciting new game I'm going to be working on in the new year! This little fella was designed more as an experiment in texture and light than anything else. So say hello to Wheelie, a rather unsteady looking two wheel robot :) I really enjoyed doing this, its been way too long since I dipped my toe into 3D.

Tunnel Escape

This was just sooooo much fun! I used to work in e-learning many moons ago and used to love it then, so now 4 years on, it was great to have another go! The brief was to create a side scrolling space-ship game, but I wasnt happy to just settle for a run of the mill side scrolling e-learning title, I wanted to make this feel as much like an old school side shooter as possible! So needless to say I got totally carried away and created it all in 3D! A great precursor to my step into the world of games, as shortly after this I was starting my first iPhone game!!

Toribash – The Trailer

Say hello to Fully Illustrated’s first commercial piece of motion graphics! This was another great project for Toribash, to showcase their ever evolving and highly original beat’em up. The brief was simple, to create a kick ass promotional trailer that really captured the explosive blood thirsty action of the game. The idea was to inspire current players to carry on playing and encourage new players to join the fighting revolution. I cannot stress how much fun this was and am hoping deeply to be able to work on more motion work in the future.

3D Environments for E-learning

I've been involved in a number of 3D environment based e-learning titles for Elektra Media over the past couple of years and these are some of the environments created. These are always great fun and require something a little different every time. I don't do that much 3D work these days with all the design work that comes in, so getting to work on these is a great break from the norm and always keep me on my toes!!

The Hard Boiled Baddies

The Hard Boiled Baddies are my latest adventure! I am trying to create my own range of vinyl toys and the response I have had from everyone out there has been great, so thanks! I have copyrighted the idea and everything that goes with them, done the sketches, created the 2D versions, modelled them up in the 3D, its now just time to design the packaging, get a site up and sell the idea...so if your interested, drop me a line!

Mini Turbo Action Kids

This was an excellent pitch allowing me to explore some new ideas in 3D Studio Max. I had been chomping at the bit to amalgamate my cartoon illustration and 3D skills into one visually exciting project...and this was it. The brief was to create a 3D cartoon virtual world with 5 distinctly different zones.

The Operatives

This was a stunning project to work on! This was just a small selection of the 3D work done to create the world of The Operatives, an engaging e-learning package that was due for BBC Jam. My brief was to create a futuristic tower block/skyscraper and a handful of high tech feeling rooms to sit within. The mood had to be clean yet highly moody and heavily treated to create a very specific atmosphere.

Robo Big-Arms-101

Robo – Big Arms 101...he he heee, this guy is an old fave of mine. He was the flagship of Fully Illustrated v1.0. He was one of my first successful 3D characters. I'm still quite proud of him, I also did a new cartoon version recently which you can find in the illustration section of the site...he's a little cooler than his 3D counterpart. Sorry big guy.

This was a rather exciting project for me, as most of my games customers know; I have something of soft spot for all things retro! So when the guys over at Golgoth Studio got in touch...well...let’s just say I was salivating!
