Story Of The Blade
This project was part of a 6 month contract where I acted as a concept artist for a number of different game's that were being prototyped internally. I was required to create a range of characters and environments that matched the games structure and storyline. These games were more proof of concept than anything else, and formed a huge internal concept drive. They weren't necessarily intended for release, so may never see an official commercial release. They were lots of fun none the less!
This game in particular was a personal favourite, as creating characters in this theme gets me extra excited! The swordsmen, archers, wizards and every other fantasy character you could imagine were all required for this one. SOOOOO much fun!!

After being a long standing fan of the Dr.Cavor series I was so excited when I got asked to create the HD promo illustration to promote the games and upcoming website! Ever since the C64 days I'd dreamed of taking an in-game pixel character and creating a full commercial promo illustration from it, just as the old box art illustrators used to do. So being asked to do this for Dr.Cavor was dream job. Taking that tiny pixel character and creating a faithful HD vector version was a fantastic challenge. I'd love to do more pixel to vector illustrations!

Wulverblade – Teaser Trailer
As most of you already know, I've been working full time on my own game now for a few months, but everything has been very under-wraps...until now!
I'd like to introduce you Wulverblade! Wulverblade is the culmination of a lifetime of dreams and aspirations. It is something I've been wanting to make for longer than I can even remember. As this is a teaser trailer, I'm not revealing much more than is shown here, so you'll have to keep your eyes peeled here for more updates.
All I will add is that EVERY element of this trailer has been made using in-game assets, so you can rest assured that what you see here, is what you'll get to experience in game.

Red Marble Games required a complete character branding overhaul, which had to stay true to their old brand but take on a fresh new look. So I took the old character as a base reference and re-created him in a more contemporary fashion. Its always fun doing a brand re-envisioning as it gives a strict brief but allows you to breath new life into something already established. Good fun!

Eyeball Invaders was a fun little side project that I worked on back in 2008 for Fishing Cactus, which is now on Steam Greenlight! I was originally tasked with creating the character, environment and UI concept art, which was so much fun as it was technically the first full game I'd worked on after starting Fully Illustrated. So I loved every minute. With the game being a side project at Fishing Cactus its been on slow burn for the past few years, but got finished recently!
The gameplay is based on the old PC hit Fleafall and is ridiculously addictive! Its due to be Free to Play too if it gets the greenlight, so why not drop it a vote and take a look for yourself. Going from the comments on there now, its looking like people are quite excited about it!

This was my 3rd project with Haypi over in China, and yet again, it was ace! This time around they wanted me as the core concept artist to flesh out the style and overall look and feel of Haypi Dragons. The main gameplay mechanic of this game is similar to Worms in many ways, but is backed up with a giant MMO world and play structure. Its fantastically addictive! The guys at Haypi needed me to create the main characters, environment styling, animations, branding, UI styling and core menus. From here they took the project in house and expanded it into the monster game that it is. I HIGHLY recommend a play as its got me hooked! Also, you can see all the UI and menu work over in the design section.

Epic doesn't really cover this project, in fact it doesn't even come close. I've worked in the design, illustration and games industries for about 12+ years now, and have worked with some of the biggest names around...but nothing has ever touched the scale of this amazing project. Trenches 2 is little short of gargantuan...in every way. Trenches 1 was a HUUUUUUGE hit and sold more than a million copies worldwide, and that game seems tiny compared to this. I was the creative director and main artist for T2 from the roots up. Concept art, character art, environment art, menus, UI, branding, animation, promotional materials, you name it. This project pushed my skills WAY beyond their old limits and moulded many new abilities that I never thought I'd have. I want to thank Thunder Game Works for choosing me on this as it really is the greatest creative accomplishment of my career. Thanks guys! Oh, and to top it all off, this is probably the deepest, most challenging and most amazing iPhone game I've ever wrapped my hands around. Buy it, play it and love it!

Cascadia Games
This was SUCH a wonderful project! I love illustrating characters, but this grizzly bear for Cascadia has to be one of my all times faves! Cascadia Games have quite a meaning behind their name, so there was a lot to accomplish within the brands feel. The bear couldn't be too cartoony, or too realistic and had to portray both strength, courage and power without looking mean, nasty or overly scary. I ended up taking a lot of influence from Disney with this character, as those guys always manage to make great heroic characters that give off both gentle and strong vibes. You know how Simba goes from being a shaking little kitten to becoming a powerful heroic Lion that defends his friends? Well, that was what I wanted the Cascadia bear to do. This was a wonderful project as I explored a style I've never experimented with before. Very fulfilling! Overall this was a fantastic challenge and one that both the client and his fan base were really happy with!

Rather than the usual video game news site, Gaming Dead is geared toward the darker side of the games industry, the horror genre! What an ugly fella this guy turned out to be! With the character branding sorted, we moved onto creating his home and playground, the website! This was so much fun to work on as it’s been ages since I created a zombie character. So if you like the darker side of the gaming world take a wander over and have a read. Great little project!

Maps, landscapes, trees, plants, animals, characters, animations, props, buildings, you name it. There was SO much to create! As you can imagine, this took quite a few months of some seriously intense illustration and animation. I’ve really been enjoying all these culturally diverse projects of late, as after creating Caves site focused mainly for the Japanese market, to move onto a project directed at the Middle Eastern market was a marvellous creative challenge. It’s so nice to work outside of what you know from time to time as it really expands you as a creative. Amazing fun. Accidental Fish, what a killer name and project! As we all know, creating characters is what I love most, and when a blooming good brief lands on my desk, giving me some rather lovely creative freedom, I enjoy it all the more! I was given the name and a request to go crazy. Accidental Fish wanted my unadulterated creativity. To take their name and visualise it into something fun, playful and painfully wacky...so I did! While being a very literal interpretation of the name, I wanted the character to be as cute as he was goofy, so with his wonky eye’s, and a battered body he still holds a cute persona. Great fun! Viking Bob was due to be our next game following on from Super Turbo Action Pig, but we were beaten to the line by another company. We couldn't believe it when we fell across a game that not only had a Viking as the main character, but also had Viking in the name and was, unbelievably, exactly the same game!!!! If we'd continued with this little game we would definitely been seen as copycats, and that isn't in our nature at all. So, our lovely little Viking Bob has been retired to the pages of history as an official non starter. We may still use him in another game we've been toying with, as lets face it, it'd be a waste not too. But for now, Viking Bob is no more. Sorry Bob.

Stenches
Stenches, that’s right, you heard it correctly, Stenches, the rotten, zombie infested follow up to the MASSIVE AppStore hit, Trenches! Man this game was the coolest!
I know we’ve all seen a few Zombies on the AppStore, hell, we’ve seen too many Zombies on the AppStore, but I take great pride in knowing that Trenches was one of the first AppStore games to feature these un-dead nasties in its secret unlockable ‘Zombie Horde Mode’. This unlockable was that much of a hit that it has spawned an entire game of its own. I was overjoyed when the guys at Thunder Game Works asked me to create the art for Stenches as Trenches had been a pretty big deal for me and was something I was supremely proud of. So this time around it was time to raise the bar! I really went to town on the visuals for this game, adding in 10x the amount of scenery detail and adding in lots of little touches to the animations.
To add to all this, the particle effects that were added to this game, along with the stellar soundtrack and sound effects have made for a truly killer title. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the early builds, and then nearly fell over when the finished build landed on my desk. Truly brilliant stuff.
Anyway, get your butt over to the AppStore and sample some of this wonderful un-dead infested goodness :)

This character has a bit of a sad story attached to him! I was approached by a company to create this guy for a new product, they absolutely loved the character, but when it came to payment time they suddenly disappeared, leaving me high and dry. How rude. So, needless to say, this character is now available to buy, along with all his associated rights. So if you're interested, let me know and we can discuss the costs. Such a shame as he turned out so well. Unnamed Project
This was a lovely little project that was destined never to be. A couple of years ago I was tasked with creating a brand, site and range of illustrated characters for a new games company. The project was a joy to work on and the final product was one to be proud of, but unfortunately, the company never made it into this world. So for the past couple of years these characters have been sat in storage, and I thought, rather then letting them disappear into the sands of time, I'd dust them off and put them up to show. Just in-case anyone is wondering if they are available to buy, I'm afraid not, as even though the company didn't launch, my client loved the work and bought the copyright with the intention of using them for another venture. So I wish him and his team lots and lots of luck!

They specifically wanted something that could portray ‘quick fingers’ and they love all things retro, so I decided to experiment with the idea of a robot, something that could quite easily behold, quick fingers. The character came together pretty quickly and while trying to find a great background to present him on, I in turn came across the look for the site! As this look was based on an old school vector grid tunnel, I decided to whip out the Nintendo Virtual Boy from my collection for some further inspiration...any reason to get an old console out and I’m on it! The Joystick Generals
The brief:
It’s been a lifelong dream of mine to start my own games company, and the wonderful little device that is the iPhone has made this dream possible. Myself and Chris Wilson, owner of www.abitofcode.com decided to join forces and fulfil a dream that we had both shared for so long! But creating a brand, identity and website to represent our dream was no easy task!
The solution:
We knew that the brand and site had to be 2D, as we both LOVE 2D graphics, and plan to only ever create 2D games. We also know that we LOVE retro gaming. So, putting those two things together, we soon realised what the two main influential factors had to be. Surprisingly, the brand came together really quickly and we settled on the look within a couple of iterations. The site then flowed on pretty naturally and we soon had a full identity sat before us! We were overjoyed! There will be a lot more to come from the Joystick Generals, so keep your eyes peeled! I hope the world enjoys our little venture as much as we do.

The brief was simple, create a bright, exciting and somewhat bonkers new brand and site design for this fresh new mobile games development company. Just the kind of brief I love. And when they said they wanted all of it to be cartoon illustrated, my eyes lit up!
The solution:
With a name like Thumb Arcade, it didn’t take all that long to visualise the character for this...a thumb...stood at an arcade, what more could you ask for? Needless to say the character came together really well and its one that both the guys at Thumb Arcade and myself are really pleased with! When we moved onto the site, it simply became an extension of the character, creating a fully illustrated site that the character could reside in. Great fun. Why not pop over to the site and see what they’re up to.

The brief:
This was one of the most fun projects I've ever had the pleasure of being a part of. Trenches was a gargantuan and totally awesome project! I was tasked with creating everything for this iPhone game from the ground up, game art, branding, interface design, HUD design, you name it, the whole shebang. Plain and simply, the guys at Thunder Game Works asked me to pull out all the stops and create the greatest work I could do, to allow them to have a killer looking game that matched the killer gameplay that they already had in place. This was going to be fun!
The solution:
Initially the guys at Thunder Game Works were gunning for something more serious, something a little more realistic, but I was convinced that giving this game something characterful, original, fun and memorable would work much better, so with that said, I went away and created some concept art to sell my vision. They were sold! Wahooo! I then started to flesh out the comical characters, animations, the different levels, the branding, the HUD, you name it, the whole lot. This was nothing short of brilliant, and is to date, one of my most favoured projects! Thanks Thunder Game Works for giving me the opportunity to work with you, this was awesome!

Being a new company they needed a new brand, character design, site design, packaging design, 3D prototyping and banner ads...the whole shebang! I knew immediately that this was going to be ace. Everything seemed to flow really naturally too, the brand and character came together really quickly and then the rest of the elements just slotted into place. It was great to work on an e-commerce site that was a little edgy and needed to have more punch than your run of the mill online store. You can take a look at the rest of the work in the other sections of the site. So if you’re in need of a kick ass modded controller, give these guys a shout, they’ve got everything covered!

A Bit of Code
The brief:
A Bit of Code is the online face of talented multimedia developer Christopher Wilson. As A Bit of Code is situated in the breathtaking hills of the Peak District, rather than in the dark, dreary confines of an inner city, this character branding exercise had to be a little bit different...something more in tune with the companies love for all things nature.
The solution:
While sat down brainstorming over a cup of coffee and some fresh home made jam filled sponge cake, Chris mentioned a story about when he looked up from his desk one day to see a cow starring directly at him through the window of his office. Hmmm, cows you say. It got me thinking. Before this we had been talking about the usual coder symbology, like code, and more specifically, binary! So there it was, the craziest and most off the wall solution you could imagine...Binary cows! What more should I say, its different, fun, playful and really grasps the feel of the company, perfect.

COCOS 2D
This was a great little illustration job! Cocos 2D is a kick ass framework for creating 2D iPhone games, one that Chris (the development half of our new independent games company, more info on that coming soon :) discovered in the early stages of creating our first iPhone game (to be released before the end of this year). Ricardo, the creator of this framework allows anyone to use it for free, even commercially, essentially giving his hard work away for free. Both Chris and myself thought it would be great to offer him something in return (as his framework/engine has helped us so much) a new re-brand, giving him something fresh, memorable and professional. The brand already had an existing coconut as its symbol, so I took this on and created a new, much more characterful version, and one that would tie in with the premise of the 2D engine. Ric and his community of games developers gave it a very warm welcome and now use it as their official brand. Great fun.

Famous Couture
The brief:
I was tasked with creating something contemporary, urban and very much in line with the world of vinyl toys (kid robot etc), but only in this instance, it had to be tied in with the company name Famous Couture, coming from the saying 'Making Jesus Christ Famous'. A tough but fun brief! This was to be the brand of a new t-shirt designer.
The solution:
Well, it could only be a caricature of Jesus really, as that's what the brand was about, so it was time to create a contemporary visualisation of the man himself. Quite a challenge! Needless to say after numerous sketches I came upon this idea, which was warmly welcomed and really embodies the brief. A great fun little illustration job.

The solution:
Well the brief was simple enough, so I sat down in Costa one Friday afternoon with a couple of nice hot mocha's one after the other and soon came up with this cheeky little fella. There were a few other versions created but this was both Webkings and my own favourite, so needless to say, he went on to completion. This was a great opportunity that arose late 2008, where I was approached by the publishers of this new creative inspiration book series, the Creative Unity, to appear in their first volume as none other than their featured designer! If that wasn’t enough to bowl me over, I was then told that I had the first 6 pages of the book! I was rather took aback by this, but promptly bit their hand of and got busy preparing some work. As it’s what I love most, I decided to focus only on illustration and photography, and put together a huge collage of my characters for the first page (which you can see in detail on the illustration page on this site). It was a real honour to be asked to appear in a such a way and I wish the guys at the Creative Unity a lot of luck for 2009! Thanks guys!

The Monsters
-- Update December 2012 - These characters have now been purchased by Social Games International --
These two cheeky monsters were originally a couple of un-used concepts from an old project that fell into the pile of old sketches. So when I got approached to be the featured artists in a new art book due out later this year (watch this space) I thought it was the perfect time to bring them to life as part of my feature. I’m really pleased with the outcome, they were a comical little pair of monsters!

Miss Clito
Well this was a break from the norm. When I was approached by the owner of Miss Clito, an adult toy discussion and shop site, I was taken aback by the request to create a cutesy duck in bondage gear and a gimp mask! As the site isn’t dodgy and is a pretty straight down the line shopping site for adults, I figured ‘what the hell, it’d be fun!’ so off I set creating a cute duck all clad in PVC. Awesome. You’ll notice that there isn’t a link for the site below, that’s just in case any younger folk are checking this out, so to all you web savvy folk out there, I am sure that Google and the name above will help you find the site should you want to take a look ;)

Orekol
These were a fun little bunch of characters to do! I haven’t been doing much in the way of illustration recently due to a huge influx of more design orientated jobs, I’m not complaining mind, but it’s nice to bring out the sketchpad again and create some funky miners! These were for the guys and gals over at Orekol, a company dedicated to mining safety signage, so these guys will be appearing all over the place apparently, even on the side of a nice big HUMMER!!! Can’t wait to see that!

Crealy Farm Animals
Mooooooo. This little job was such fun! Simple brief, create a handful of cute and friendly farm animals. Awesome, I love jobs like this ;) I wanted to keep within my usual style but also wanted to start exploring some new shapes, so as you can see, the basic outline shape is the same on both the cow and pig…a great way of creating a new ‘family’ style. I want to make more silly animals.

The Hard Boiled Baddies
These are the original concept illustrations for my Hard Boiled Baddies that I created last year. I was looking through some old files and found these, so I just thought I’d add them as they are a good indication of how the idea progressed. If you have no idea what I am talking about, take a trip over to the 3D section to find out more.

Snerk Devil
This was a fab little branding job! I was asked to create a cheeky devil character for a new site due to be launched this year. The brief was to keep him devilish, cheeky and fun, with a little edge too. It was nice to have a play with a character that has a ‘dark’ background, as most of my characters are usually happy, smiling little bundles of fun, this dude has a daaaaark side…oooooohhhhhh.

Hunter Bob – He…Hunts
I have a few illustration jobs brewing right now, but as they are all either in production, or not yet live, I thought I’d try some more personal stuff...Say hello to Hunter Bob, why a hunter? Why Bob? Who knows, just some random thought that came to mind about some deer hunting 70’s influenced character...so I decided to make him. Yet a little more exploration going on here, thought I’d fall back on old faithful, clean lines and nice strokes, only this time with a sepia palette, texture and drop of the seventies.

Crazy Creatures
This was a personal project to explore a new range of characters that had been wandering around my mind for way to long. Also it had been a while since I last put pencil to paper, so I grabbed my pad and started scratching!

Pointy Ear Man
Yey, a little more character development. I have some great new work starting soon, so I wanted to take some time to play around with some style development. Don't ask where the idea came from, I was just sat down watching some TV with my sketch pad playing with some lines...and boom, he appeared. Kinda Batman inspired I guess with a mix of other superheroes. I really like the clean line, Tartakovsky style simplicity of this character, I must keep exploring!!

Angry Viking – Happy Viking
The brief:
As far as briefs go, I never really set one, I just let my mood create the character.
The solution:
This was a chance to create a character in two totally different moods, happy and nice, angry and blood thirsty, quite good fun and with no real point to it.

Rabid Rabbit
It’s been a good month since I last posted some new ‘commercial’ work as everything is in production right now, so to keep the site updated and keep my regulars entertained, I’ve been playing in my sketch pad on pretty much daily basis...and here’s the latest incarnation...the Rabid Rabbit. I recently bought Michael Gagne’s (www.gagneint.com) awesome art book ‘Insanely Twisted Rabbits’ and fell totally in love with whole idea of him and his mate trying to out-do each other with who could create the most twisted bunny...so I figured, what the hell, I’ll take a pop too...and here he is...looks pretty twisted to me.

Puffr
It was a boring Sunday afternoon...it was thundering (I love thunder), raining, and generally, one of those ‘don’t know what to do Sundays’...so I drew a Puffer fish???? I don’t know why, I just started sketching and he appeared out the end of my pencil.

Silly Little Undead Warrior
Don’t ask, I have no idea. He hee, well, I just got a little caught up in some good issues of ImagineFX, one too many fantasy movies and a couple of great new books, needless to say I thought I’d throw a mix of traditional painting with my usual cartoony style...and got this. I really love fantasy art and love to have a go now and again. It’s been many years since I had a go, so please feel free to mail me to tell me what you think, good or bad, I’m open to criticism :)

Combat Droid
Its official, I'm back to my spending every spare waking moment drawing again, its been ages since I've been glued to my sketch pad. I recently bought some of the awesome Revoltech robots, from Patlabor and Macross, which got me all excited and made me want to re-explore my old Combat Droid (see bottom of this section). I reeeeeeally wanna create this bad boy in Max...just need the damn time!

Scruffy Rat
After creating that scruffy looking combat droid below I was inspired. New style, new burst of enthusiasm, so hold on tight, there's gonna be looooooads more of this style coming soon. I LOVE DRAWING, its great to be back doing what I love best...and best of all, its all for meeee. No client brief, no restrictions, just unadulterated freedom. Wonderful!
The Warrior
This character was created as a bit of an experiment. I had taken a great amount of inspiration from the great Genndy Tartakovsky and wanted to create a new character in his style. I went on to create many more characters over time utilising many of the techniques gained during this exercise. Simplicity and clean lines.

One of my favourite parts of the Sonica package, the castle...oooooooh spooky! This formed a large part of the story and was used as the end of level challenge!
Discover Alive
These are just a few of the characters created for the Discover alive project. There were 100's of activities for many different subjects. These characters helped the kids stay entertained throughout ;) Awesome fun!

Sonica Mandarin
This was a sample for a potential 'other language' version of Sonica. This was for the proposed Sonica Mandarin. The brief was to keep the Sonica style that I created for the Spanish package but introduce an oriental/manga influence. I really liked these ones.
3T Character Collage
As I had been illustrating for about 3-4 years for 3T productions they asked me to create a 4ft long print containing as many characters as I could find that I had created during this time. This piece still hangs in the entrance hall to the second floor.

Tudor Joust
This was one of my favorite projects from a while ago. This was another e-learning game to help teach kids about the period of the Tudors. This was a short flash game based around a handful of characters created around pieces of armour in the Victoria and Albert Museum.

These pictures were taken of my lovely wife up on the moors one late evening as the sun was dying away, her hair caught the wind...just as quickly my finger caught the button on my camera. Lucky!
